If you are 350 miles from the sea you ought to be suspicious with “so called” fresh fish. Although in Chile it is impossible to go further from the sea than this, we are a bit worried about our A4 sized fried fishes in the rustic diner where we stopped this day.
This was just one stop on the Pan-american Highway on which we are travelling to the north towards the Atacama desert. A whole day of driving and travelling is ahead of our team, from Santiago to the northern mining centre of Copiapó. We spent our last night at the residence of our Chilean Ambassador. We enjoyed every last minute of it as this was our last chance to have hot water, nice food and Chilean wine and a bed to sleep in.

Our departure from Santiago was delayed as we had a lot of gear, way more than before our last expedition, to pack on our 4x4 pickup. We had a lot of trouble with the canvas on the trunk too. It blew from the trunk and waved as a big blue ribbon after our car. Half an hour of tying ropes on the trunk, next to the busy highway, solved our problem.
